What it includes beyond gross salary in India

Employer EPF contribution runs roughly 12 to 13% of basic wages once the EPS, EDLI and admin-charge components are included. Gratuity accrues at roughly 4.8% of basic salary a year, payable after five years of continuous service. ESI, where applicable for wages up to the statutory ceiling, adds a further employer contribution on gross wages. Statutory bonus adds 8.33 to 20% of eligible wages. On top of these statutory pieces sit benefits like health insurance and other perks, plus broader overheads like office space and equipment. It’s worth being precise here: CTC in India is meant to already include PF, gratuity and bonus by definition, so true workforce cost is closer to CTC times headcount plus the non-CTC overheads, recruitment, facilities, tools, rather than adding statutory percentages on top of CTC a second time, which would double-count them.
