Flexi-time lets employees choose their own start and end times within set boundaries, rather than everyone being required to clock in and out at fixed hours. It’s one of the more common flexibility policies in Indian offices, especially in roles where exact hours matter less than output.
Most flexi-time policies define an outer window, for example arrivals allowed anywhere between 8am and 11am, and require employees to complete their full daily hours from whichever start time they choose. It’s frequently paired with core hours, a fixed block everyone is expected to be present for, so teams can still coordinate meetings and collaborative work despite staggered schedules.
No, flexi-time is about when you work, not where. It’s commonly offered alongside work-from-home or hybrid arrangements, but the two are separate policy decisions.
It requires attendance systems built for it, tracking total hours completed within the flexible window rather than flagging anyone who isn’t at their desk at a fixed 9am start.
