PF Calculator

PF Calculator

Your EPF statement shows one number, but your monthly contribution is actually split three ways: your own share, your employer’s share toward your PF corpus, and a slice of your employer’s contribution that goes toward your pension instead. This calculator breaks down all three and projects what your PF balance could look like at retirement.

Why your employer’s 12% isn’t all PF

Of your employer’s 12% contribution, 8.33% (capped at Rs 1,250 a month, based on a Rs 15,000 wage ceiling) goes into the Employees’ Pension Scheme, not your withdrawable PF balance. Only the remaining amount, plus your own 12%, actually builds up in your EPF account and earns interest. Most simple PF calculators skip this distinction entirely and treat the full 24% as PF, which overstates your actual corpus.

Frequently asked questions

Can I withdraw my EPS contribution?

Not the way you withdraw PF. EPS builds toward a monthly pension after 10 years of eligible service, payable from age 58. You can claim a withdrawal benefit if you leave before 10 years of service, calculated on a separate table, not a straightforward contribution-plus-interest figure like PF.

What if my basic salary changes during my career?

This calculator assumes your basic salary stays constant for the projection, which won’t be true in practice. Treat the retirement corpus figure as a rough baseline; a salary that grows over time will meaningfully increase your actual corpus beyond what’s shown here.

Should I restrict PF to the Rs 15,000 wage ceiling?

That’s an employer decision, not yours to toggle, though some establishments do apply it and others contribute on full actual basic. Check your payslip: if your PF contribution is exactly 12% of Rs 15,000 (Rs 1,800) regardless of your actual basic, your employer applies the ceiling.

Does this include VPF (Voluntary Provident Fund)?

No. If you’re contributing extra through VPF on top of the mandatory 12%, add that manually to the monthly contribution figure and recompute using a separate compound interest calculation, since VPF also earns the EPF interest rate but isn’t part of the standard 12%/12% split shown here.
