Prorated Salary Calculator

Prorated Salary Calculator

Join a job on the 12th, or leave on the 20th, and that month’s salary is only part of the full figure. This calculator prorates it from your dates, or from a day count you enter, using calendar days, a fixed 30, or working days as the basis.

Proration for joiners and leavers

The rule is always the same: prorated salary = (days on payroll / basis days) x full monthly salary. The days on payroll are counted inclusively, so a joiner on the 12th of a 30-day month is paid for 19 days. The basis is the only real decision. Calendar days is the most common and the simplest to audit, since the divisor matches the month. A fixed 30 keeps every month identical. Working days counts only Monday to Friday and makes each paid day worth more. Statutory pieces such as PF, ESI and TDS are normally computed on the prorated amount, not the full salary, so your payslip for a part month looks smaller across every line.

Frequently asked questions

Which basis should I use?

Use whatever your employer’s payroll policy specifies. If you do not know, calendar days is the safest assumption because most Indian payrolls default to it.

Is the joining day itself paid?

Yes. Day counts here are inclusive of both the first and last day on payroll, which is the standard treatment.

How is this different from an LOP deduction?

Proration is for a month you were only employed for part of. An LOP deduction is for unpaid days inside a month you were employed for all of. For that, use the LOP Calculator.

Does proration change my CTC?

No. Your annual CTC and full monthly salary are unchanged. Only the pay for the specific part month is reduced.

What about a mid-month increment?

Split the month in two: prorate the old salary for the days before the revision and the new salary for the days after, then add them.

How are leavers handled for final settlement?

The prorated salary for the last month is one input into the full and final settlement, alongside leave encashment, notice pay and deductions. See the Full and Final Settlement Calculator.
